Marvel X-Men Volumes 3 & 4 (DVD)

I can’t believe I missed out on this as a kid. I was into everything from He-Man to Thundercats when I was younger, but for some reason I never got hooked on X-Men. Watching it over 20 years later, I now wish I would have seen it then! DVD Volumes 3 and 4 of this classic series are out now and it is a must see for any true fan out there. These are extremely entertaining and I definitely recommend checking them out! Both are 2-disc sets, with Volume 3 containing 15 episodes and 14 on Volume 4. The episodes on these sets are filled with intriguing stories and loads of action. Anyone familiar with the X-Men movie trilogy will remember Jean Grey becoming Phoenix. Well, on the Volume 3 set, there is a 4-part series titled “The Dark Phoenix” that cannot be missed if you loved that storyline from the film! Overall, if you never saw this animated series that stayed true to its comic book roots, then do yourself a favor and check these out!

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles – The Complete Second Season (DVD)

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is back with a vengeance on its DVD release of Season 2. This season brought more explosive action and plot twists than you can imagine. If only those damn terminators sent from the future didn’t have such a hard time hunting down John Connor. Of course, with John’s warrior mom Sara protecting her son it sure makes it hard for them to catch him. This set contains all 22 exciting episodes and has an impressive set of features that run about four hours! I consider myself a fan of this exciting show and this set doesn’t let down at all. Watching this is a guaranteed adrenaline rush with each episode. For sci-fi adventures, this show definitely ranks among the best. And for TV on DVD sets, this one is hard to stop watching once you start and may cause you to lose sleep. Overall, this is one of the best sets released all year.

SCRUBS: THE COMPLETE EIGHTH SEASON (DVD)

You’d never want medical treatment at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital. But if you did happen to get admitted there, you’d probably die from laughter with the crew working there. It’s hard to believe this show has lasted 8 plus seasons! If you’re a fan of the show and you loved Season 8 of Scrubs with all its wacky characters, then the season’s DVD set is probably right up your alley. The set boasts 19 outrageous episodes and features some extra features such as deleted scenes and bloopers, to name a few. In case you missed the eighth season, let Zach Braff and friends treat you to some good medicine. After all, laughter is the best medicine, right?

SAMANTHA WHO?: THE COMPLETE SECOND AND FINAL SEASON (DVD)

Samantha Who? is a show about recovering your identity. More specifically, for the main character Samantha (Christina Applegate), she must do this after waking up from an eight-day coma with absolutely no memory of her life. The second (and final) season is over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t see it anymore. The DVD set for this final season now available and it contains 4-discs with every episode and tons of features that go behind-the-scenes of this memorable comedy. With all its goofy moments, the show covers topics relevant to people such as feeling guilt for the person you used to be and friendship/relationship issues. I’m not sure how much more they could have pulled out of the story, so it’s probably good the show ended when it did. Overall, this DVD set is a great collection of episodes and special features to celebrate the show’s final season.

EASTBOUND & DOWN: SEASON ONE (DVD)

Every kid has a baseball player they look up to...
Kenny Powers is not that guy

When you have Will Ferrell as an executive producer on a show, you’re guaranteed some pure laughter. Eastbound & Down is an HBO series about a washed-up former Major League pitcher named Kenny Powers (Danny McBride) who returns to his hometown in North Carolina to teach middle school Phys Ed. Powers defines the word “asshole” as he offends almost anyone he comes in contact with. As expected from anything with Ferrell’s name attached to it, the comedy is so over-the-top that some will either love it or hate it. I would fall in the camp that really digs the outlandish humor. Since I have hardly any time to catch the show on HBO, I was glad I was able to see it on the Season One DVD set. It’s a 2-disc set containing all six episodes some special features that happen to include two fake car commercials with Will Ferrell. It’s not for everyone, but I had a blast checking out this DVD set. Overall, it’s freaking hilarious.

Super Friends: The Lost Episodes (DVD)

If you were a fan of the memorable Super Friends show, then you’ll get a kick out of the DVD Super Friends: The Lost Episodes. Released by Warner Home Video (WHV) and DC Comics, this DVD contains 24 “lost” episodes that were produced AFTER the show ended, and were not seen until after a decade later. This DVD is truly entertaining, as you get reintroduced to of Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Wonder Twins and their monkey Gleek! One of the most memorable animated shows in recent pop-culture history, Super Friends still stands up on its own. It’s extremely fun for young kids and us adults that grew up on it. So if you’re one of the many that remembers this show like I do, then this set can’t be missed!

Episodes included are:

Mxyzptlk’s Revenge

Scooby-Doo Where Are You? Volume Three (DVD)

Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Doo wherefore art thou Scooby-Doo!

Once again, WHV treats Scooby fans with another DVD release containing more episodes from the very first season. This time it’s Scooby-Doo Where Are You? Volume Three. It’s one of the goofiest cartoons you’ll ever see, but you can’t ignore the impact this show had on pop-culture. If you’re curious to see where this show began, this DVD has 4 episodes from the first season that are too fun to watch. The only downside to it is that I wish there were more than 4 episodes. Hopefully, WHV will release the ENTIRE first season on DVD, rather than 4 episodes at a time. But still, this DVD is great for a night of laughs. And considering how old this show is, WHV did a nice job transferring it onto DVD with some good video and audio quality. Just pop it on and get taken back to the time where Scoob and the gang started out!

EARTH (DVD)

With nature specials becoming more popular as people get involved with trying to save the planet, it’s no surprise Disney made its own movie. And with Disney behind the wheels, it’s no surprise that it turned out to be a fascinating experience. Out now on DVD and Blu-ray is DisneyNature’s Earth. If you want to open your eyes to see the world like never before, then this is the film. Narrated by none other than James Earl Jones, the film takes you to the most far off corners of the world to give you a glimpse of life out there. From polar bears to exotic birds to fierce predators, Earth is an inspiring film that brings a fresh look at the world we live in. The Disney Combo Pack (Blu-ray + DVD) is an impressive set that boasts some awesome audio and visual quality that enhances the experience of seeing this film. As great as the film is, it’s a MUST that you see the special “making of” feature. It was truly impressive to see the work that was put in to make this movie, especially when a polar bear went after one of the crew and followed him to a shed! It must have been really dangerous, but the filmmakers came out with a product that is both educational and entertaining for families everywhere.
