Leverage: The First Season (DVD)

Timothy Hutton found himself a hit in the new show Leverage. This TNT series stars Hutton as Nate Ford, a dad who’s looking to get revenge against corporate and governmental crooks after his insurance company allowed his 8-year-old son to die. That tragedy fueled a fire within Nate to assemble a team of con artists and computer gurus to help honest citizens that were wronged. The first season of this smart and fast paced show is out now and it is a damn good collectible. What does it include? There are 4 discs containing 13 episodes, deleted scenes, commentaries, and behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable set, and I definitely recommend checking it out!

ER: THE COMPLETE ELEVENTH SEASON (DVD)

Drama galore combined with the fast paced story that's found in ER makes this DVD set a hit.

Not many shows have had a run as long as ER did. Each episode was guaranteed to be pure entertainment with all the surprises that the show provided. Speaking of surprises, Season 11 of this hit show has its fair share of them. Out now on DVD, the complete set of Season 11 comes in a sweet six-disc set with every heart-pounding episode. So what can you expect from this set? Well there’s an aquarium worker with a live shark latched on to give you a taste. This is the ultimate collection for any fan of the show, and one of the best seasons of this long running series.

Check it out!

THIRD WATCH: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON (DVD)

More great TV on DVD with NYC's bravest in Third Watch. In this complete set of the show's second season, you get SIX DISCS of all 22 episodes. It's a mighty fine set if you ask me. While it's not the best show showcasing heroes in NYC (see Law and Order for that), it is a solid show that can hold its own. What's unique about Third Watch is that it shows the professional and private drama in the lives of police, firefighters and paramedics. While these people deal with rapists, murderers and kidnappers in their jobs, some of them have a hard time just trying to keep their personal lives in order. That’s one of the strong points of this show. It’s been nine years since this season was out, and if you never had the chance to see it I definitely recommend checking it out.

Reno 911! The Complete Sixth Season- Uncensored (DVD)

The funniest and most idiotic cops you’ll ever see are here in the DVD collection of Reno 911! The Complete Sixth Season. Nothing is off limits here as the bumbling cops take their incompetence to a new level in this uncensored 2 disc set. There are 15 episodes here of this show, which is one of the raunchiest comedies on TV. In the sixth season of Reno 911! you are introduced to a wide range of characters such as Aryan wine-makers, roller-skating prostitutes, and the idiot cops themselves. It’s a nonstop ride of some really obscure and hilarious situations in this sixth season. In short, this set is a riot to watch. Of course there are extra features worth mentioning that are included. They are:

Reno Department Presents: Office Policies and Workplace Etiquette
Module 1: "Proper Workplace Hygiene: Germs and You!"
Module 2: “Sexual Harassment: ‘It's Your Right to Say No’”
Module 3: “Sexual Harassment – Part 2: Is This Sexual Harassment?”
Module 4: “Nailing the Interview”
Module 5: “Stress in the Workplace”
Module 6: “Diversity Training: A Personal Experience”
Module 7: “Reno’s Green Initiative Update”
Module 8: “Appropriate Topics for Workplace Discussion”
Reno Officers at Mardi Gras

Overall, this DVD set’s got the goods…

Entourage: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)

HBO has some of the best TV series you'll ever see, and Entourage is no exception. This show about actor Vincent Chase and his buddies trying to make it in Hollywood is addictive to watch. Executive producer Mark Wahlberg has a goldmine on his hands with this one. With Sex And The City gone, it’s safe to say that True Blood and Entourage are fit enough to carry the torch as far as HBO series go. Entourage is already through its fifth season, which is out now on DVD. This is a collection of 12 episodes on 3 discs and it is a great set to own. It’s loaded with behind-the-scenes interviews and special features that should satisfy all you die-hard fans out there. One thing’s for sure, watching this set left me hungry for what lies ahead in the next season. Overall, this is one of the best TV on DVD sets to be released this year.

Friday the 13th (DVD)

You’d think by now that old age would slow down Jason Voorhees, but apparently it hasn’t. I’m sure a lot of people rolled their eyes when hearing about this remake. Although I was tempted to when I first heard about it, I’m glad I waited to watch it before making any opinion. I just checked out the DVD and I was very pleased. This one has all the elements of what made the originals so damn good. The movie makers obviously treated this one with some respect by not sabotaging the franchise. What I was very glad to see is that there were hardly any goofy moments thrown in like there were in some of the older ones. There was lots of sex and gore as you’d expect, but this one also had a much more serious tone which reminded me of the very first one. When I watch a horror film I want to see lots of scary moments rather than too much gore. That’s what makes Japanese horror films so good. Well this one is gory, but it’s got some scary moments that stick with you after watching. And that’s what makes a horror film great. After seeing this I am interested in seeing how they will follow it up. But for now, this will be one I reach for when I’m in the mood for a great scary movie.

Spring Breakdown (DVD)

In the mood for a cheesy movie that’ll give you quick laughs? Look no further than Spring Breakdown. This comedy stars SNL vets Amy Poehler and Rachel Dratch, and Parker Posey a.k.a. the Queen of Indie Films. These three women have been geeks all their lives. These ladies never felt like they fit in. However, their chance to redeem themselves comes when the boss of Parker Posey’s character wants her to keep an eye on her daughter at Spring Break. This film is filled all the dumb jokes and scenarios that you can think of about Spring Break. Poehler, Dratch, and Posey do what they can to carry this film. At some parts they are just annoying; at others they are pretty funny. This film was a direct to DVD release, and you can tell why when watching it. Overall, the film is not as funny as I thought it would be, but it does have some memorable moments. Keep your eyes out for the scene where the girls perform their own version of “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips.

He's Just Not That Into You (DVD)

Most guys don’t do chick flicks that well. There are a few good ones that anyone in a relationship can relate to like When Harry Met Sally or Sleepless In Seattle. Out of sheer curiosity (or temporary insanity), I wound up checking out He's Just Not That Into You. Hey, when you’re married, you sometimes find yourself doing things a little out of the ordinary. Anyway, from a guy’s perspective, this film will make you feel guilty! Even if you didn’t do anything wrong! However, looking strictly at how the film covered relationships (or the lack of), it’s so realistic that it’s scary. The acting from the cast was decent, as was the story. It shows women the truth about why guys like to play around, are afraid of commitment, etc. It also gives us guys the harsh truth about ourselves that we don’t like to admit. Overall, this chick flick is one that wasn’t all that bad. In fact it might even help your own relationship (or ruin it)!

Gran Torino (DVD)

This movie took me by surprise. I didn't think it would hit me as hard as it did. I'm not a big fan of Clint Eastwood's films, but Gran Torino changed my opinion of him quickly. Here he plays a tough as nails Korean War vet named Walt Kowalski. This guy Walt has got more balls than most male characters you've seen in the movies. Walt is a bitter old timer that carries a lot of emotional baggage. Ironically, with all his prejudices against Asians, he lives in a predominantly Asian neighborhood. However, those prejudices change when he develops a friendship with a teenage neighbor after his life is threatened by a local gang. This movie is a picture of what true courage and sacrifice look like. It'll make you angry, and maybe make you cry. But one thing it'll do is inspire you. If you haven't seen this great film yet, I highly recommend doing so now!

Inkheart (DVD)

Brendan Fraser is officially the poster boy for family adventures. After The Mummy series and Journey to the Center of the Earth, he now adds Inkheart to his roster. Before you dismiss this as a low rate fantasy film, it’s not. I know it’s hard to believe, but Inkheart is a really good fantasy film! Maybe it’s just me, but I thought it was great. The idea of someone who has the power to bring characters from a book into the real world was fascinating. The pace of the movie wasn’t slow, so there was no time to get bored waiting for the action to kick in. If you haven’t seen this film yet, I definitely recommend checking it out. On the DVD version there’s both Widescreen and Full Screen formats to choose from. It’s no Harry Potter, but surprisingly Inkheart is among the better fantasy films out there.

THE TRANSFORMERS: The Complete First Season 25th Anniversary Edition (DVD)

Now this is how I remember the Transformers.

Whether you like them or not, the movies done by Michael Bay have sparked a new interest in the Transformers franchise. What seemed to be a forgotten show for a while has been resurrected. And now Transformers are the coolest things out there. Recently, Shout! Factory has released the entire first season on a special 25th Anniversary DVD set. You can always count on Shout! Factory to bring back some of the best in pop culture history onto DVD. This set is no exception. Perfect for any die-hard fan, this set takes you back to how it really felt watching the show in the 80’s. I’ve seen a lot of classic shows re-released onto DVD, and this is definitely one of the best. The video and audio qualities are sharp, while still retaining the show’s classic feel. Here you get to relive all the classic battles between the Autobots and Decepticons in this collectable set. I highly recommend checking this one out whether you’re an old-school fan or a newbie.
