There's a Revolution that's made it's way from Atlanta to here in NYC. It's about time. I'm looking forward to seeing it unfold in this area. Viva La Revolution!

It seems I'm splitting hairs over the original post, but really it's just some thinking out loud that the post made me think about...

The problem, I think, that most church-haters, Jesus-haters, God-haters have extends beyond righteousness (self or otherwise) and judging.

We (mankind) shouldn't even be talking about righteousness. It's NONE of our concern.

Righteousness is God's concern alone--or, as Austin Powers would say, "that's His bag, baby."

Anytime I hear someone mention righteousness I tell them to shut up.

If we're at any point pondering or thinking about righteousness, ours or others', that is a waste of time.

Judgment. Yeah, we're told to judge. The Bible tells us to.

Wait! Doesn't Jesus say not to?

I love to confuse people who tow a strict "don't judge" line by showing them Scripture telling people to judge. That is so much fun!

It seems, though, people have taken an inch and gone 80,013 miles with judgment. Regardless, that's a never-ending topic of itself.

I don't think that's quite as big an issue, though. People, and (American) society, seem to be okay with ethics to some degree. I don't think many folks object to the Enron crooks getting slammed.

Society also seems to be okay with murderers and pedophiles getting caught and sentenced.

I think the apology ties to being self-absorbed, justifying shit with Scripture, being dispassionate about people who hurt, becoming unrelatable and unhelpful toward people by hiding in comfy brick & mortar cocoons, developing a Christianese language that leaves outsiders in the dark.

Why don't we also apologize for all the shit-eating grins that pastors paste of themselves on websites and billboards? Where they claim to be a community of love and acceptance, and on their very same website show the list of beliefs one should adhere to in order to be accepted/acceptable by them.

Why don't we apologize for marketing Jesus as a end-all-problems consumer product?

Why don't we also apologize for Christianity promoting God (and the Way) as a Blessing-Slot-Machine? Pray...God will be nice to you. Read scripture...God will be nice to you. What the eff is this mentality all about?

I think that's it in a nutshell.

I like the phrase they have, or used to have on their site..

"Jesus is the Savior, not Christianity.."

i just don't know about this statement...it's seems a bit...what's the word...tacky?...could it be an overly trite issue? what if you're a product of the postmodern age where you acknowledge who's in charge of this whole thing called the universe and all that's in it but could care less about the ongoing bickering between christians. what is this apology going to accomplish anyway, when people don't even accept chewing gum on a hip christian free post-card? i just don't think the majority of people care anymore about rhetorics. community activities is what they care about, not some christian groveling about what they have done throughout history. it's hard enough when they're stricken with boredom, sucked in by our time's commercialism, and inundated by countless options. i just don't know.
