If you know exactly what TV show that opening line came from, then you know all about THE MAN known as Mr. Belvedere. In the 80's, there were two sitcoms that had famous male housekeepers. The first was Tony on the classic show Who's The Boss. The other was the sarcastic and quick-witted Mr. Belvedere. Mr. Belvedere was an English housekeeper that worked for the Owens family. The Owens family was a group of 5 that needed some help, and not only with keeping the house clean. Enter Mr. Belvedere, who came into their lives and brought his English charm to help “whip them into shape”. Think of him as a much bigger and sarcastic version of Mary Poppins. I was surprised recently when I heard the show was finally brought to DVD. For a while I figured it was lost in pop culture oblivion to be forgotten. But lo and behold, Shout! Factory has brought this classic series back to life with a 5-disc set of Seasons 1 and 2. Fans of this show can now relive their favorite moments and episodes with this great collection. Shout! Factory did a decent job with the transfer of these episodes to DVD format. For an older show, the viewing quality is pretty good. I definitely recommend it for any fan of the show, or anyone curious to find out more about this classic from the 80’s.
