Amusement (DVD)

Are you up for a little... Amusement?

I thought that after the Saw series, the idea of a sadistic killer torturing people has been worn out. Well, not exactly. Get ready for Amusement. This recent thriller is about three childhood friends stalked by a killer with a grudge that stems all the way from elementary school. An incident that involved one of their classmates comes back to haunt Tabitha, Shelby, and Lisa when they‘re suddenly taunted by a mysterious character wanting revenge. When the girls find themselves trapped in a stone-walled chamber, they are suddenly face to face with their enemy. If they don’t find a way out, they’ll soon be dead. It’s all part of the killer’s “amusement”.

Amusement is not a bad movie to pop on for some quick thrills. However, it had the potential to be a lot better than it was. I thought the ending wrapped up too quickly. It would have been great if they extended it just a little bit to add some more tension. Despite my issues with the ending, the film does have its moments. One particular scene is when one of the girls is babysitting, and the stalker/killer is waiting for her in the bedroom with his evil clown costume. He just sits there waiting while she thinks it’s a life-size doll. Her attempt to escape the house after he chases her is one of the more chilling moments of the film. Amusement may not appeal to everyone, but it’s good enough to give a few scares to those looking for some.
